There are a lot of magnesium sprays out there. When I started looking into which magnesium chloride I actually wanted to use in mine, I kept coming back to the same source: the Dead Sea.
Here's why, and what actually makes it different from other magnesium chloride you'll find on a label.
Not All Magnesium Chloride Comes From the Same Place
Most magnesium chloride sold for skincare comes from one of two places.
- The Dead Sea, where it's part of a naturally occurring mineral brine, concentrated over centuries. Along with magnesium chloride, Dead Sea water carries a broader mix of trace minerals: potassium, calcium, bromide, sodium.
- Zechstein deposits, an ancient underground seabed beneath Northern Europe, deep-mined rather than drawn from a living body of water. Zechstein magnesium tends to be more isolated and purer, with less of that trace-mineral mix.
Neither one is "better." It's really a trade-off: do you want magnesium chloride with its natural companion minerals still in it, or a more isolated, single-mineral form? I chose the Dead Sea because I like knowing my magnesium is coming from that same mineral-rich water people have been using for generations, not a lab-isolated version of it.
Where Mine Comes From
The magnesium chloride I use starts as flakes sourced from the Dead Sea. I dissolve them into filtered water, and that's the entire formula. No added fragrance, no fillers, nothing to explain away on the label.
What I Actually Use It For
I'll be straightforward here: this isn't a substitute for anything your doctor has you on, and it's not something I'd call medical advice. It's part of my own evening wind-down. I spray it on before bed as part of a simple routine, the same way I'd reach for a warm bath or a cup of tea.
A few honest notes if you're trying it for the first time:
- A mild tingle is normal, especially the first few times
- Patch-test a small area of clean, unbroken skin before your first full use
- Skip it right after shaving, and rinse off if it feels uncomfortable
- For external use only. Check with your doctor first if you're pregnant, nursing, on medication, or managing a health condition
Try It For Yourself
If you've been curious about topical magnesium or wanted to know what actually goes into mine, now you know: Dead Sea magnesium chloride and filtered water, nothing else.
Shop the magnesium spray. Keep an eye out, because I'm bringing back the two-bottle Reset Duo with a simple 7-day routine soon.
